SITE: The 2005 OSA Hull of a Race will be held on July 30, 2005 on the waters of the Bay of Green Bay. The Oconto Sailing Association is the host club and organizing authority.

RULES: The race will be governed by the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of US Sailing, this notice and the sailing instructions.

ELIGIBILITY: The race is open to all keel boats that may be scored with a PHRF rating. Competitors must have paid all event fees before becoming official competitors.

RACING: The starting sequence for the 2005 Hull of a Race is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 30, 2005.

REGISTRATION: Completed entry forms may be mailed to: Hi Seas Marina, 1711 Harbor Rd., Oconto, WI 53153. Competitors may also register at Hi Seas Marina on Friday, July 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, July 24 from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Completed forms must be accompanied by the entry fee of $25.00.

DOCKAGE & MOORING: Dockage and mooring is available Friday night at no charge at either Hi Seas Marina or on the mooring buoys at the breakwater. Please note that the controlling depth of the channel to Hi Seas Marina is at times 4'.

THE START: The starting line will be between a buoy and the Oconto breakwall red daymark and must be crossed by sailing north to south, leaving the buoy to port. Races will be started using the following signals. Times shall be taken from the visual signals. The absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded.

RACE COURSE: The Hull of a Race is a point to point race from the starting area off of the Oconto breakwall to the finish line off of the Menominee marina breakwall. The Peshtigo Reef Light (N44°57.4', W87°34.7') and the Red Nun #2A, Fl R 4s marking Menominee Shoals (N45°06.3', W87°34.4') are marks of the course and must be left to port. The course is approximately 24.3 miles long.


THE FINISH: The finish line will be between the north end of the Menominee Marina breakwall and a staff bearing an orange flag on the Committee Boat. The Committee Boat will be positioned east of the breakwall to form the finish line. The breakwall point is located at: N45°06.3', W87°36.1'. The finish line must be crossed sailing north to south, leaving the Committee Boat to port.

RECALLS: Individual recalls will be signaled in accordance with RRS rule 29.2. In addition, the Race Committee will attempt to hail, and attempt to broadcast on VHF channel 82, the sail number of each yacht that did not start in accordance with the definition. It is each yacht's responsibility to determine whether or not it has started properly. Failure to hear a hail or receive a broadcast of its racing number will not be grounds for protest or redress.

TIME LIMIT: There will be no time limit to complete the race. The Committee Boat will stay on station at least one hour after the first yacht in each class finishes. Yachts finishing when the Committee Boat is not on station are required to record their own times and report them to the Race Committee at the Menominee Marina. The Committee Boat will announce its departure from the Finish Line on VHF channel 82 if departing prior to all yachts finishing.

ALTERNATE PENALTIES: The 720 degree turns penalty, RRS rule 44.2 will apply and include two tacks and two gybes.

COMMUNICATION: The Race Committee will broadcast information on VHF Channel 82. Competitors shall refrain from making radio transmissions while racing.

SCORING: The Hull of a Race will be scored using elapsed times corrected by PHRF ratings.

PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded to the first three places in each division based on correct time. A prize will be awarded to the overall winner based on correct time.

SOCIAL EVENTS: Complimentary coffee and doughnuts will be available at Hi Seas Marina on Saturday morning. The Hull of a Race awards dinner will be held following the race at Dexter's Restaurant.
